Violent, gritty, gangland thriller set in the tough world of London's East End.

Two kids are murdered...

Their gangland family want revenge.

Ten-year-old twin sisters are murdered outside their school. But they aren't just anyone's kids, they're gangster Stanley Lewis' daughters. When a rival gangster is arrested Stanley vows to take revenge. But his dad, feared villain Kenny Lewis, thinks there's more going on. So he contacts the one group of people who he trusts to help him find the truth...

Jackie, Anna, Roxy and Ollie. Four women with shady pasts who take the cases people don't take to the cops. They enter a world of easy sex and even easier violence where everyone, including the Lewis family, are hiding secrets. Then Jackie's son, a friend of the dead girls, disappears.

Biographical Notes

Born and bred in the East End of London, Dreda Say Mitchell has seen it all from the inside. After a string of jobs as a waitress, chambermaid and catering assistant she realised her dream of becoming a teacher. During this time she saw a new generation of East Enders grappling with the same problems she had but in an even more violent and unforgiving world. Dreda's books are inspired by the gritty, tough and criminal world she grew up in. She still lives in London's East End. In 2016, she became a Reading Ambassador for the Reading Agency to promote literacy and libraries.

The novel's complex plot shoots along at a terrific rate, gathering momentum. But what puts flesh on the bones and raises Mitchell's writing above the run of gangland thrillers is its psychological level . . . The end result is that the reader can enjoy colourful characterisation, along with the plot. — Independent

Teach Yourself Good Manners

W S Norman
Authors:

'If hot soup gives you hiccoughs, you hate oysters and cannot swallow trifle with bananas lurking in it, what should one do?'Originally published in 1958, Teach Yourself Good Manners is a fascinating and hilarious guide, packed full of both timeless advice and tips that demonstrate just how much life has changed in the 60 years since it published. Indeed, the author, W S Norman, would doubtless be horrified by modern manners and would implore us to study his rather uptight but very funny rules for modern living. Amusing, intriguing and sometimes rather inspiring, this handbook is a window into how life would have looked had we lived in a 'a simpler age' - in which, confusingly, they had rather a lot of strange rules.'If your name is a difficult one, resign yourself with a good grace to hearing it mispronounced rather than make the other person feel embarrassed at having got it wrong.'Since 1938, millions of people have learned to do the things they love with Teach Yourself. Welcome to the how-to guides that changed the modern world.

The War of the Flowers

Tad Williams
Authors:

A masterpiece of the imagination, THE WAR OF THE FLOWERS is a truly epic novel which once again pushes the boundaries of fantasy fiction into new and unexplored territory. In the great city, in the dimly lit office of an impossibly tall building, two creatures meet. Gold changes hand, and the master of the House of Hellebore gives an order: 'War is coming. The child must die.' In our own world, a young man discovers a manuscript written by his great uncle. It seems to be a novel - a strange fairy tale of fantastic creatures and magical realms. But it is written as a diary ... as if the events were real ... as if his uncle had journeyed to another world. For the young man, the fantasy is about to become reality.
