*** 365 joy filled tasks to make your life more engaging, fun, caring and jolly ***

"There are little things we can all do that can make a huge difference to our lives and to the lives of those around us. Doing something jolly every day that you can look back on with a smile and be grateful for, knowing it has also brought kindness to others, can gently help replace old negative thought patterns with more positive ones.

The tasks included in this little book are designed to be universal and free (or as cheap as possible). And all the ideas here, however silly they may seem, offer genuine and healthy ways to change the way we feel for the better.

Now is the time to have some childish fun and break the monotony of adult life and all its stresses. I hope some of the ideas do this for you, that you have SUCH FUN doing them and that day by day you can begin to lead a calmer and happier life!"

My Squirrel Days

Ellie Kemper
Authors:
Ellie Kemper

Mostly true stories by the irrepressible star of the hit Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. There comes a time in every actress's life when she is faced with the prospect of writing a book. Ellie Kemper, the star of hit Netflix sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, first gained attention with a one-woman show, Feeling Sad/Mad, at the UCB Theatre in New York, founded by a comedy troupe that counted Amy Poehler, among others, in its ranks. Kemper's popularity exponentially grew with a regular role in the US version of The Office, followed by appearances in the highly successful Bridesmaids and 21 Jump Street.Kemper's infectious personality and easy, natural humour inspired Tina Fey to develop and write Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt specifically for her, and those same qualities shine through in My Squirrel Days, essays and funny stories from Kemper's childhood and career. From her upbringing in suburban St. Louis to her stuffed walrus Waldo to auditioning for Saturday Night Live, from the time she accidentally insulted Ricky Gervais at the Emmy Awards to when she offered a maxi pad to Steve Carrell, Ellie will guide you along her journey through adulthood, from unorganized bride to impatient wife to anxious mother who - as recently observed by a sassy hairstylist - 'dresses like a mum'. Having previously written for GQ, Esquire and The Onion, Ellie Kemper's voice is the perfect antidote to the chaos of modern life. My Squirrel Days promises to be as hilarious and as joyous as the best of her work on screen.(P)2018 Simon & Schuster Audio

Pie and Mash Down the Roman Road

Melanie McGrath
Authors:
Melanie McGrath

G Kelly's Pie and Mash has been run by the same family in the Roman Road in Bow for nearly a hundred years; an East End institution and the still point of a turning world. Outside its windows the Roman Road has seen an extraordinary revolution - from women's liberation and industrialisation to wars and immigration - and yet at its heart it remains one of the last traditional market roads of London.Pie and Mash on the Roman Road is the biography of that shop and of the people - customers, suppliers, employees, owners - who passed through it, and continue to do so. Through vivid tales of ordinary lives the book will tell the extraordinary story of the community living around the oldest trading route in Britain, and the true heart of the East End.

An English Christmas

John Julius Norwich
Authors:
John Julius Norwich

'If I could work my will,' said Scrooge indignantly, 'Every idiot who goes about with "Merry Christmas" on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.'A Christmas anthology from legendary historian and Christmas Cracker compiler, John Julius Norwich. This year go carol-singing in the Cotswolds with Laurie Lee or attend church with a grumpy Samuel Pepys. Make plum puddings for bemused French villagers with Elizabeth David; go present shopping with Virginia Woolf or eat far too much with Agatha Christie. Celebrate Christmas at Chatsworth, in the workhouse or marooned in the ice with Shackleton ... For the last forty-five years, the arrival of John Julius Norwich's latest Christmas Cracker has become as essential a part of the Christmas experience as holly and mistletoe. In An English Christmas the legendary popular historian has finally gathered all the best writing about this strangest and most memorable time of year into one book and his brilliant eye for a story is evident on every page.Vividly evoking all the good things about the festive season, this unexpected anthology is just as entertaining about its darker aspects. Eight-year-old Princess Margaret's thank-you list jostles with moving letters home from the trenches. Sherlock Holmes solves his trickiest case. George Orwell writes about indigestion; Jane Austen about reluctant socialising and Thomas Hardy about the old folk belief that all animals kneel at midnight on 24 December. There are ghost stories, games and bizarre recipes. Diary-entries, recipes and letters sit alongside poems and short stories. An English Christmas could convert any Scrooge into an instant enthusiast.(P)2017 Hodder & Stoughton Limited
