The official TED guide to public speaking

'This is not just the most insightful book ever written on public speaking-it's also a brilliant, profound look at how to communicate' - Adam Grant, author of ORIGINALS

In Ted Talks Chris Anderson, Head of TED, reveals the inside secrets of how to give a first-class presentation. Where books like Talk Like TED and TED Talks Storytelling whetted the appetite, here is the official TED guide to public speaking from the man who put TED talks on the world's stage. 'Nobody in the world better understands the art and science of public speaking than Chris Anderson. He is absolutely the best person to have written this book' Elizabeth Gilbert.

Anderson shares his five key techniques to presentation success: Connection, Narration, Explanation, Persuasion and Revelation (plus the three to avoid). He also answers the most frequently asked questions about giving a talk, from 'What should I wear?' to 'How do I handle my nerves?'.

Ted Talks is also full of presentation tips from such TED notable speakers as Sir Ken Robinson, Bill Gates, Mary Roach, Amy Cuddy, Elizabeth Gilbert, Dan Gilbert, Amanda Palmer, Matt Ridley and many more. This is a lively, fun read with great practical application from the man who knows what goes into a truly memorable speech. In Ted Talks Anderson pulls back the TED curtain for anyone who wants to learn how to prepare an exceptional presentation.

Is there a single recipe for a great speech? Of course not. But there are some essential ingredients, which the TED team sets out here with concision, verve and wit (which are also some of the ingredients). An inspiring, contemporary guide to the venerable arts of oratory. — Sir Ken Robinson
Excellent; easily the best public speaking guide I have read. — Tim Harford, Financial Times
Nobody in the world better understands the art and science of public speaking than Chris Anderson. He is the absolutely perfect person to have written this book, and it will be a gift to many. — Elizabeth Gilbert
This is not just the most insightful book ever written on public speaking-it's also a brilliant, profound look at how to communicate. If you ever plan to utter a sound, this is a must-read. It gives me hope that words can actually change the world. — Adam Grant, Wharton professor and author of ORIGINALS
The TED Talk has reinvented the art of rhetoric for the 21st century - we now know that "ideas worth spreading" can indeed be spread far and wide, and with clarity and panache. Behind this revolution lies Chris Anderson, who had a vision that powerful ideas can improve the world and has developed a coherent philosophy and a set of guidelines for compelling communication. — Steven Pinker
The TED Talk may well be the defining essay genre of our time: what the pamphlet was to the 18th-century, and the newspaper op-ed was to the twentieth. TED TALKS is a guidebook to this new language, written by the man who has made it a global force. — Steven Johnson, bestselling author of HOW WE GOT TO NOW
For anyone who's got a story to tell, or an audience they want to engage - this book is a must-read — Forbes

Counter Mentor Leadership

Kelly Riggs, Robby Riggs
Authors:
Kelly Riggs, Robby Riggs

This book is the result of over twenty-five years of combined experience from Kelly and Robby Riggs-dynamic, occasionally irreverent, always insightful, father (Boomer) and son (Millennial), who work with organizations grappling daily with multi-generational conflict. Through their collaboration, Kelly and Robby share their very different perspectives on the same problems most companies are STILL dealing with, but haven't had the courage or the tools, to address. Issues such as: a shocking lack of leadership skills; the culture-killing generational divide that is demolishing many companies; and the stunning, often unrecognized impact of technology on the workplace. In their "shamelessly funny, brilliantly written" debut book, Kelly and Robby will:· Discuss today's workplace dynamics, including the changes in communication modes, the influx of technology, and the impact of Millennials and Digital Natives · Explain how a one-sided approach to leadership focused on "managing" Millennials is grossly insufficient, resulting in an inability to attract and retain critical young talent· Explore the new challenges of leadership inherent with the explosion of technology-time compression, distractions, complexity and the pace of change· Reveal how old leadership challenges persist, and explore how the younger generation will expose those challenges more than ever· Detail the CounterMentor leadership model and prescribe specific tactics and techniques for addressing both old and new leadership issues

Authors:
George Binney, Philip Glanfield, Gerhard Wilke

IS IT JUST ME OR IS EVERYTHING AROUND HERE BONKERS?Do you ever feel bewildered or even oppressed by what goes on in your organization? Does anything ever strike you as odd, ridiculous, inefficient or just plain bonkers? Chances are you are not alone. No matter what industry, sector or institution, the world of work can often seem bonkers. We can spend so much time ticking boxes, preparing plans and reports, sitting in unproductive meetings, replying to unhelpful emails and trying to deliver on misconceived, top-down initiatives that the time to do real work is squeezed out. Breaking Free of Bonkers shows you how it is possible to make progress despite the mad and messy world of today's organizations. Against the odds, it is possible to lead effectively.George Binney, Phil Glanfield and Gerhard Wilke are three organization consultants from Ashridge Business School. They have an unusual vantage point. Drawing on their long experience of working with people at levels - from chief executives to front line workers - they offer hope. They use a wealth of lively examples and illustrations to show you how to get connected with colleagues, get real about what you offer and get going on the things that matter.

The Franchising Handbook

Carl Reader
Authors:
Carl Reader

Most small business books focus on what it takes to start a small business, and not what it takes to start a franchise. At best, these books might allocate a single chapter to the concept of franchising, and at worst the author presumes that franchises are the same as any other business start-up. The world of franchising has its own nuances, and advice that works for 99% of start-ups would not apply to franchising. In fact, well-meaning advice can often be detrimental to potential franchisees. This book is focused on making sure that potential franchisees are aware of the specific journey ahead of them. As franchising is a two-way business arrangement, it includes exactly what franchisors are looking for, what can or cannot be negotiated with a franchisor, and how best to present yourself to ensure that you win the franchise you want.

The 80/20 Principle

Richard Koch, Richard Koch
Authors:
Richard Koch, Richard Koch

In the ten years since its first publication, The 80/20 Principle has become a business classic and a global bestseller. In this new edition Richard Koch outlines a fresh understanding of the true power of the principle. And it is powerful: the 80/20 principle - the counter-intuitive yet prevalent fact that 80% of results flow from 20% of causes - is the one true principle of highly effective people and organisations and has stood the test of time. Many thousands of people throughout the world have found the principle useful at work, in their careers and in their personal lives. Koch outlines how with the 80/20 Principle we can achieve much more with much less effort, time and resources simply by concentrating on the all-important 20% thus controlling events instead of being controlled by them, and with several times the results.
