A Christian pathway into mindfulness, using the gospels, poetry and storytelling

It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.

Drawing on this Irish saying, poet, storyteller and theologian Pádraig Ó Tuama relates ideas of shelter and welcome to journeys of life, using poetry, story, biblical refelction and prose to open up gentle ways of living well in a troubled world.

The fourth gospel tells of Jesus arriving in the room where the disciples are gathered, full of fear, on Easter Sunday. He does not chide or admonish; instead he says 'Peace be with you', which, in the Aramaic of his day, was simply a greeting. To people locked in a room of fear he said 'Hello,' welcoming them to a place of deep encounter: encounter with themselves, with their fear, with each other and with the incarnate one in their midst.

Interweaving everyday stories with narrative theology, gospel reflections with mindfulness and Celtic spirituality with poetry, In the Shelter reveals the transformational power of welcome.

O Tuama relates of shelter and welcome to the journey of life making full use of poetry, stories and biblical reflection — Church of England Newspaper

The author's Christianity is a more inclusive, learned and subtler version than the one I grew up with...

If I had a teacher like Ó Tuama, I might have kept my soul's wagon hitched to Jesus, instead of switching to Buddha...

The most staunch of atheists would find inspiration and, if I may use the hackneyed phrase, life lessons in its pages. It is infused with bruised, loving and confused humanity. For believers it is infused with a bruised, loving God...

This is not an easy, cosy read. It is challenging, erudite, poetic...

A book to be kept at one's bedside for those dark nights of the soul when sleep evades, for though it may not be cosy, it offers us ways of accepting life as it is, of standing still in the moment, and it offers the courage needed not to run from fear...

Pádraig's wonderful book, In the Shelter: Finding a home in the world is a patchwork of reflections, poems and true stories. It takes the reader to some tough places, with calmness and hope, letting us into the story of someone facing the hard task of growing up whole in Ireland in the 1980s. It's also an inspiring guide to the kind of conversations that bring peace and understanding between people. — Steve Tomkins, Reform Magazine

A Little Moment of Kindness helps young children explore what it means to be kind to themselves and those around them. Even at such a young age, children are learning to interact with other people in their lives, be it friends, grandparents or siblings. All the time they are observing how we treat each other, so the need to emphasise the kindness and patience is as valuable as it is necessary. This beautifully illustrated book helps children think about what kindness means and it value in the world. Each illustration is placed alongside an inspirational thought which allows room for reflection and encouragement for children. Designed to enjoy through individual reading or with an older family member, this series allow parents and grandparents to read alongside their young ones and share together in the experience of slowing-down, valuing stillness and thoughtfulness, and spending time in the company of family members and God.

Krish Kandiah
Authors:
Krish Kandiah

Over the past decade the Religion vs. Atheism debate has generated a lot more heat than light, with passionate advocates for both sides snarled up in antagonistic claim and counter-claim. Where does the truth lie?In fAiTHEISM Krish Kandiah asks us to take a long hard look at ourselves - and a more understanding look at each other. When we step away from the arguments for a moment and consider the real people on each side of this debate, he argues, we will discover that we share more than we realise. The desire to know the truth is in itself a uniting factor, even if we have reached different conclusions, and in testing our own assumptions, Krish contends, we can both grow in our own beliefs and understand each other better. In this challenging exploration of the myths about Christianity and Atheism, Krish draws on his experiences with the adoption charity Home for Good that he founded - on the one hand explaining the adoption and fostering process to churches and on the other, helping local authorities to understand where churches are coming from - to question the most common assumptions about Christians and Atheists. Time and again the evidence shows that the truth on the ground is not what one might expect - and the potential for genuine understanding is far greater than the antagonists on either side would have you believe. What if, by believing the best about each other, we could achieve the best for ourselves? What if the truth really can set us free?

Mooji

In ever-growing gatherings worldwide, the revered teacher Mooji has opened the eyes of thousands through his rare ability to shine light on the ineffable with uncommon clarity, humour and warmth. Now, in Vaster Than Sky, Greater Than Space, Mooji invites and inspires readers everywhere to discover the true essence from which we all arise. Throughout the book he addresses various questions that come up for seekers, such as: How do I find peace, joy, love and happiness? Is it really possible for an ordinary person with a job and family to attain enlightenment? Are intimate relationships a help or a hindrance to awakening? I don't believe in God, and I don't consider myself a devotional type of person, but the word Truth resonates with me - are your teachings relevant to me?You use the phrase 'timeless presence'. What does it mean? How can anything be timeless? How does one transcend personal conditioning and suppressed emotions, and so come to lasting freedom? If we are essentially free, why does it seem so difficult and distant, so remote or rare to realise the Truth? Through our own earnest search for truth, Mooji helps us arrive at the answers, not by offering concepts but by leading us back to our hidden yet inherent knowing.
