Rights Manager/Head of Rights, Bookouture

Who we are and what we do

Bookouture is the fastest-growing digital publisher in the UK, and a division of Hachette UK. We publish globally in the English language, and have sold more than 40 million books over the past 8 years, with 2020 our most successful year to date. Our authors are already hugely successful in translation with more than 700 titles translated across 37 different territories.

What you will be doing

You will report to the Contracts, Rights and Author Development Director, and sell translation rights globally for all our WAL titles. You will work with our editorial teams at all stages of the acquisitions process. We want to acquire and exploit the best possible range of rights for our authors, and work with translation publishers and customers across the world to maximise the value of those rights for our authors.

What we are looking for

You will already have a successful career in rights selling, with excellent communication skills. You will be able to negotiate in a firm, fair and friendly way, whilst maintaining the values and interests of the company. You will have a clear idea of both the difficulties and the solutions to selling titles that are bestsellers in digital formats to translation publishers who are used to measuring success in print.

Commercially and financially literate, you will build strong relationships with publishers, agents and authors and work closely with colleagues in-house to provide feedback to editors for new acquisitions.

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark in a company that is setting the pace for digital publishing in the UK. We’re looking not only for great talent, but for people who make a habit of improving the way things are done, who embrace change and who enjoy applying science and tech to creativity.

What we offer

We offer flexible working for all staff, whatever your circumstances. This includes the opportunity to work from home for one or more days per week along with flexible hours to fit your life. Bookouture is a dynamic working environment, where your ideas will be heard and where you will have the capacity to change things, take risks and do things differently. We are a fun and sociable workplace where there is always lots going on

You will be part of a fast-growing company, with the opportunities for career progression that offers.
