Cyber Crime & Warfare: All That Matters

By Peter Warren and Michael Streeter

  • Paperback
  • £8.99

All That Matters about cyber crime and warfare. All That Matters books are a fast way to get right to the heart of key issues.

In Cyber Crime: All That Matters, Peter Warren and Michael Streeter outline the history, scale and importance of cyber crime. In particular they show how cyber crime, cyber espionage and cyber warfare now pose a major threat to society. After analysing the origins of computer crime among early hackers the authors describe how criminal gangs and rogue states have since moved into the online arena with devastating effect at a time when the modern world - including all the communication services and utilities we have come to take for granted - has become utterly dependent on computers and the internet.

Reinventing Capitalism in the Age of Big Data

Viktor Mayer-Schonberger, Thomas Ramge
Authors:
Viktor Mayer-Schonberger, Thomas Ramge

Markets have long been acknowledged to be a superior mechanism for managing resources but until the advent of big data, they largely functioned better in theory than in practice. Now, as ideal markets are within reach because of vastly greater access to information, we are on the verge of a major disruption. As data becomes a more valuable asset than cash, the rules for surviving and thriving are changing.Reinventing Capitalism is a provocative look at how data is reinventing markets and, in so doing, is ushering in an era where the firm is no longer predominant. With richer and more comprehensive information about human wants and needs, an economy powered by data offers the possibility of increased abundance, equality, and resilience. The data-driven markets that will thrive in this environment are far better than firms at organizing human endeavors, meaning that finance driven capitalism is being displaced by its more efficient, moresustainable, and more democratic disruptor: data capitalism.

Rugby: The Game of My Life

Rob Andrew
Authors:
Rob Andrew

An exclusive look at England Rugby from a former player with a unique perspective.Nobody has spent as much time in the front line of rugby union's first's two dramatic decades of professionalism - as a player, coach and administrator (blazer) - as Rob Andrew, or taken as much flak; all this in the wake of one of the most distinguished and successful of England rugby playing careers. From the collapse of amateurism at the 'Lomu' World Cup in 1995 to England's disastrous showing as hosts at the 2015 tournament, Rob Andrew offers a unique insider's account of the headline-grabbing events that saw England rugby scale the greatest heights by winning the 2003 World Cup, before sinking to even greater depths, with the sacking of coaches Andy Robinson, Brian Aston, Martin Johnson and Stuart Lancaster; the traumas of the global tournament in New Zealand in 2011, which Andrew describes as the 'worst year in the history of the RFU'; and the painful ignominy of becoming the first host nation ever to fail to make the knock-out stages of a World Cup. Rob Andrew has strong views on the managerial and governance decisions made at key moments during his time at Twickenham; on the increasingly difficult challenges faced by the sport as different nations and stakeholders pursued different agendas; on the crucial importance of the need for enlightened and modern-styled management across the sporting landscape as commercial pressures put traditional structures under ever greater strain. Most importantly, Andrew gives his views on the individuals who took those far-reaching decisions that impacted so negatively on the national side as it tried to compete on the world stage. Rob Andrew examines in detail the successes and failures of English Rugby in the professional era. Analysing the contributing factors to both winning and losing, and looking forwards to how England can learn from all of this and build to be the best team in the world.(P)2017 Hodder & Stoughton Limited

'The list of female war reporters is long and distinguished. But the great-grandmother of them all was Clare Hollingworth' Mail on Sunday'Unputdownable' Alexander McCall Smith'One of the most unforgettable journalists I have ever met' Chris Patten'She was a pioneer' Kate Adie OBEA NEW EDITION WITH EXCLUSIVE PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE CLARE HOLLINGWORTH FAMILY ARCHIVELegendary journalist Clare Hollingworth died in Hong Kong aged 105 in January 2017 after an illustrious career spanning the 20th century. Clare was famous for getting 'the scoop of the century': the outbreak of the Second World War. From witnessing the first aerial bombings against England in the First World War, through Hitler's Blitzkrieg, Clare's résumé included desert war in North Africa, civil war in Greece, terrorism in Jerusalem, naming Philby as the Third Man, and guerrilla warfare in Vietnam and Borneo. She had an uncanny ability to make headlines throughout her century-long life. And although her style of journalism was very different from the 24-hour breaking rolling news we have today, the need for detailed eye-witness reporting seems even more important today as we face an onslaught of fake news and alternative facts. The story is not just about news and war however: through access to family papers and personal accounts, her great-nephew Patrick Garrett is able to show Clare in three dimensions, explain her life and loves, and show how she dealt with the pressures of life as a correspondent - decades before women were routinely accepted in this role.facebook.com/celebrateclaretwitter.com/celebrateclare
