Stephen C. Lundin

Steve Lundin was born in Toronto. He is an anthropologist and an archaeologist, and has worked in the United States and Canada with North American native groups, excavating and preserving prehistoric rock art. He attended the prestigious Iowa Writers' Workshop, and won a grant from the Manitoba Arts Council to write This River Awakens. He has also published short stories and novellas in Canada (with Anvil and Tsar).
Susan Calman

Born in Glasgow, Susan Calman escaped corporate law to become a stand-up comedian. She's a regular on radio and television panel shows like QI and The News Quiz and has presented the BAFTA-award winning Armchair Detectives, the recent travel series, Secret Scotland and the podcast Mrs Brightside. She recently appeared on Strictly Come Dancing where she made it all the way to Week Ten. Even more excitingly she won the Glitterball on the Strictly Live tour. Dr Craig Canapari, M.D., is Director of the Yale Paediatric Sleep Center and an attending physician in Pediatric Pulmonology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He served previously as Director of the Paediatric Sleep Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He graduated from Yale with a degree in English, and attended medical school at the University of Connecticut. Canapari's work has been published in numerous academic journals as well as publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, US News and World Report, and the Boston Globe. Irene Carr was born and brought up on the river in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, in the 1930s. As her father and brother worked in the local shipyards and her mother was a barmaid at the beginning of the century she was well acquainted with the setting and times of the world she recreated in her sagas. Irene Carr died in 2006.

James Clavell

James Clavell, the son of a Royal Navy family, was educated in Portsmouth before, as a young artillery officer, he was captured by the Japanese at the Fall of Singapore. It was on this experience that his bestselling novel KING RAT was based. He maintained this oriental interest in his other great works: TAI-PAN, SHOGUN, NOBLE HOUSE and GAI JIN. Clavell lived for many years in Vancouver and Los Angeles, before settling in Switzerland, where he died in 1994.
