Lauren Luke is 27 and lives with her partner and son, Jordan, in South Shields, near Newcastle. She has five dogs, including Phoebe, her beloved pug, who is often featured snoring in the background of her videos! She began filming celebrity-inspired makeup tutorials in her bedroom in South Shields two years ago. She never imagined that within a couple of years, over 51 million people would have seen her on YouTube and that she would become the most viewed makeup artist in the world - she now has over 240,000 subscribers to her videos, 16,000 followers on Twitter and over 20,000 fans on Facebook! She also has a column in the Guardian, this Christmas Nintendo is launching a game for its DS console where the main character is an avatar of Lauren, and she has been the subject of a BBC documentary.Growing up, Lauren had a tough time at school and she would experiment with makeup and bright colours to try and fit in. She's always enjoyed showing others how to use makeup to bring out their best features and to help them feel special. So she came up with the idea of uploading how-to videos onto YouTube to show others how to bring out the best in themselves with makeup and how to recreate their favourite celebrity looks. Lauren had no idea the videos would have such an impact on her life:"What happened next was something I never ever imagined. I uploaded my first video Sunday 22nd of July 2007 and the minute it went live I sat scared, trembling in my chair, wondering 'will people see it?' and 'what will they say?' Well, all I can say is on that day I must have been the luckiest girl alive because I was soon flooded with huge amounts of views and comments, and best of all, I felt like I was making a connection with other girls out there like me, regular girls."Now, with her book LOOKS and her brand new makeup range, Lauren is on a mission to give the beauty industry a wake up call and celebrate real women everywhere!
