Ruth Davidson press release

Hodder & Stoughton to publish Ruth Davidson, Leader of Scottish Conservative Party

19 Jan 2017

Hodder & Stoughton has commissioned Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservative Party to write a book which will explore the life lessons learned by some of the world’s most powerful women.  She will talk to a range of successful women, from world leaders to international pop stars; corporate CEOs to army special forces – each describing their own path, in the hope it can be a signpost for others.

Ruth Davidson says: ‘This book is for every daughter, every mother, every aunt and every niece. It tracks the great societal shifts that have brought us to where we are as well as the individuals who have helped nudge us another fraction towards the tipping point. As more and more women own the future, I hope very much that this book will become an obsolete curio in my lifetime; a text to be puzzled over as to why it needed to be written at all. In the meantime, here are the life lessons learned by some of the world’s most powerful women’.

Rupert Lancaster, Non-Fiction Publisher at Hodder & Stoughton comments: ‘I very much admire Ruth Davidson’s approach to politics, where she brings wit and clarity of thought to an arena where both are often sadly lacking. We’re delighted and honoured that she has chosen Hodder & Stoughton to be the publishers of her first book’.

Hodder acquired world rights from Patrick Walsh at PEW Literary and will publish in 2018.

Ruth Davidson studied English and Scottish Literature at Edinburgh University and, after graduation, worked as a journalist for more than 10 years, mostly with the BBC. She was elected to the Scottish Parliament for the Scottish Conservatives in May 2011 and was elected leader of the party in November of the same year. Ruth lives in Edinburgh with her partner, Jen, and their cocker spaniel, Wilson.
