Hodder & Stoughton acquire The Great British Bake Off. Exclusive rights bought from Love Productions in multi-book deal.
Hodder & Stoughton are delighted to announce that they have acquired exclusive publishing rights for The Great British Bake Off from producer, Love Productions in a multi-book deal.
Hosted by Sue Perkins and Mel Geidroyc and judged by Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, The Great British Bake Off is one of the most popular programmes on British television. This year’s final was watched by over 13 million viewers – its highest ever audience. In addition, nearly 3 million tuned in to watch An Extra Slice on BBC Two, hosted by Jo Brand.
‘Bake Off’ has inspired a baking revolution, with baking books dominating the book charts in recent years. The tie-in books have sold over 1 million copies to date and Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood have both enjoyed big sales of their own books.
“‘Bake Off’ has become part of our national vocabulary – whether you’re a keen cook or an armchair baker the series has become essential viewing. It’s a brilliant mix of humour and passion, expertise and endeavour, and of course, lots of cake,” says Hodder Lifestyle Publisher Nicky Ross. “We are hugely excited to be working with Love Productions who have created this TV phenomenon and will be working closely with them to extend the publishing brand in a variety of formats.”
“Books are the perfect way for viewers to consume ‘Bake Off’ beyond the TV screen, as we seek to extend the brand onto other platforms.” says Anna Beattie, Joint Creative Director at Love Productions. “We are delighted to be working with a publisher which shares our vision going forward and look forward to working with Hodder to develop the next phase of our publishing programme”.
The deal was brokered by Claire Potter and Stuart Cooper at Metrostar.
