Joe Hunter is enjoying some much needed r&r when a young woman approaches him to help find her missing sister Imogen. Kate Piers knows about Joe from her dead brother Jake, Hunter’s former comrade in arms, and for that reason alone he feels obliged to help. The fact that Kate is very attractive doesn’t hurt.
Together they go to Imogen’s Kentucky home where they are immediately attacked by a bunch of thugs, acting on behalf of local businessman Robert Huffman. Huffman outwardly respectable but the psychotic twins he uses as his enforcers give the game away: he has links to organised crime and a deadly reputation with a blade. Huffman is also looking for Imogen, and kidnaps Kate to act as bait. Looks like Joe is in trouble again . . .

Reviews

If you like the Jack Reacher books, you'll love Hilton's series . . . Action-packed from start to finish
Heat
A hell-for-leather tale that spins your head around like a mad fairground Waltzer ride. Eat your heat out, Jason Bourne.
Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Matt Hilton delivers another hardcore, action-packed gritfest featuring a cold-blooded killer with a heart of gold.
Daily Record
Joe Hunter is fast becoming a serious rival to Jack Reacher in the action stakes . . . SLASH AND BURN is the kind of novel that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and drags you along at breakneck pace before finally throwing you down exhilarated, breathless and screaming for more. The prose is sparse and so tightly wound it is impossible to turn the pages fast enough, making it a definite read-in-one-sitting novel . . . [Hunter] is an excellent character who is developing more and more as Hilton's confidence as an author grows.
