Doodlemum

a year of family life

By Angie Stevens

  • Hardback
  • £16.99

A perfect gift book celebrating the joys and reality of a year of family life from popular daily blogger and illustrator, Doodlemum. Warm and funny, tender and instantly recognisable, the book captures the day to day joys of children, pets, school runs, holidays, housework and messy domestic bliss.

Most parents photograph their children growing up, but Doodlemum (Angie Stevens) posts a drawing of her children and their family life on her blog every night (after the kids have gone to sleep). She draws everything from holidays to pets, tantrums to camping. All captured in a few key strokes of the pen.

Angie Stevens's enthusiasm for drawing developed in childhood and she went on to study illustration at the Unviersity of Westminster. After shis, she says, came 'the tsunami of children and marriage' but her passion for drawing never left her. After the birth of her third child, 'a bit exhausted, sleep-deprived and probably suffering from a bit of post natal depression', her husband bought her a collection of Moleskine notebooks and suggested it might help to start drawing again. It did, and in 2010 the Doodlemum blog was born.

Over 1000 illustrations later, Doodlemum is established. This is the book her fans have been asking for - perfect for them and for those who will fall in love with this tender and funny picture of family life in all its messy glory.

Biographical Notes

Angie Stevens is a proud Welshwoman. She lives in Swansea with her husband, three children, the dog, the cat, four chickens and a cockerel and a laundry basket that's never empty.
On her popular daily blog, Doodlemum, she describes herself as '38, short, defensive, far too chatty for my own good, mother artist, noisy, chocolate loving and permanently tired.'

Dadlife

Simon Hooper, Father of Daughters
Authors:
Simon Hooper, Father of Daughters

'This is the story of my journey into parenthood, from being a 24 year old man-child with no idea of what being a dad involved, to where I find myself today: the single male representative in a household of five women, or in other words, outnumbered. Our house is now known as "the place where silence came to die". It's also where you'll find carpets that are made up of 50% glitter and where there are more pink stuffed animals than at a colour-blind taxidermy specialists. But I wouldn't change a thing. These people are my life.'From uninitiated parents-to-be to those who know the ropes in families large or small, everyone will find something to relate to in Simon's hilarious and chaotic tales of his own home life. His observations of being a father have delighted his hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram: before now dads are often the forgotten ones who carry the luggage, open stiff jars, take photos on holiday, fix broken bikes, go back to work, do the night feeds and make a mean beans on toast with melted cheese without so much as a pat on the back. All too often dads shrink into the background. But not in this book. Dadlife is an incredibly funny yet emotionally heartfelt ode to modern family life.

You Can Take the Cat out of Slough . . .

Chris Pascoe
Authors:
Chris Pascoe

You can take a cat to water but you can't make it think. Last summer, Chris Pascoe decided to do something monumentally stupid. He decided to stay at home with his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Maya and disaster-prone tabby Birmingham, Brum for short. And also with Brum's rather vicious live-in-partner-girl-cat Sammy, who he intended mainly not to wake. Let biting cats lie. Why he believed time with Brum would, with all the years of contrary evidence, be quality he's not at all sure . . .The result is a series of tales of death-defying feats.  Paddling pools, gazebos, small birds and kitchens - all aspects of normal life can take a dangerous turn with the presence of Brum. Pascoe tries to train the tabby, restrain the tabby and even researches the stories of other danger cats in a bid to keep Brum alive a bit longer. And amazingly, despite the efforts of his exuberant two-year-old with a plastic mallet, he still is.
