A Story of God and All of Us

By Mark Burnett and Roma Downey

  • Hardback
  • £16.99

OFFICIAL TV TIE-IN TO 'THE BIBLE' CHANNEL 5 TV SERIES. The Bible's most fascinating stories are brought to life in vivid detail in this original work of fiction by husband and wife team Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.

A STORY OF GOD AND ALL OF US is a sweeping narrative that dramatises some of the most important events and characters in the Bible. Developed alongside the epic TV mini-series THE BIBLE, the book reads like a fine novel, dramatising the sweep of biblical events, making the men and women of scripture come alive in vivid detail and dialogue. All are historically and theologically accurate.
The script for THE BIBLE TV series has been reviewed by a number of Christian church leaders and theologians for authenticity. All the key biblical characters are portrayed in the story: Moses, David, Daniel, John the Baptist and of course, Jesus. The book will also highlight the prophetic significance of the empires that controlled Israel down the centuries - Egyptians, Babylonians, Persians and Romans - as well as the many Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah.

The Song of Songs

Charlie Cleverly
Authors:
Charlie Cleverly

The Song of Songs is redolent with poetic imagery, featuring as it does the love songs of a man and a woman as they explore their relationship. Down the centuries it has often been interpreted either as a sexually-charged love story or an entirely metaphorical imagining of the relationship between God and his people. In this deeply-felt book Charlie Cleverly argues that both interpretations are critical to a true understanding of this book that lies right at the heart of the Bible. If our relationships with one another and with God are not both fully in tune with our humanity, in all its richness, and with our spirituality in its highest form, then we will fall short of all we can be in our lives.Drawing on a wide range of sources, literary and theological and across the ages, Charlie Cleverly makes the case for a new, rounded understanding of this important book.

A Wall in Jerusalem

Mark Braverman
Authors:
Mark Braverman

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is at the center of a firestorm of political controversy, religious zeal, and bloodshed in the Middle East. Many feel that they have a biblical obligation to 'stand with Israel' - but do we really understand the conflict? And is Zionism the true path to peace? An American Jew, Mark Braverman was transformed by witnessing firsthand the devastating consequences of the struggle between Israelis and Palestinians to bring peace to their land. From the bustling communities on either side of the Jerusalem barrier, to the historical intricacies of the Holocaust and South African apartheid, to the foremost voices in conflict resolution today, Braverman outlines the conflict's origins, gives Christians a biblical and historical basis for supporting both the state of Israel and Palestine, and offers a path of action both at home and abroad to initiate peace. Illuminating and provocative, this book will challenge what readers think they know about Israel and Palestine, and inspire them to help bring God's peace to the Holy Land.

Jesus' ascension into Heaven-the end of his earthly life-is one of the most puzzling moments in the Gospels. It marks the moment when Jesus was no longer limited to a specific point in space and time. In The Father and Son, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and New York Times bestselling author of The Reason for God, explains why this means our encounters with Jesus can be richer now that he available to us in all times and places.

The Gospels are full of encounters that made a profound impact on those who spoke with Jesus Christ. In his Encounters with Jesus series, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and New York Times-bestselling author of The Reason for God, shows how those encounters can still have a deep effect on us today. Jesus' experience in the garden at Gethsemane is well known, yet it is both more horrifying and more beautiful than we realise at first glance. Keller examines this biblical passage to show us how clearly Jesus saw the penalty he would have to pay for our sins, and how this payment ensures our standing as righteous in the eyes of God.This and the other nine in the series make up the complete Encounters With Jesus: Unexpected Answers to Life's Biggest Questions.

Wounded by God's People

Anne Graham Lotz
Authors:
Anne Graham Lotz

'I believe there are many of us who have been wounded by God's people. And I believe there are those of you who have been so wounded, that you have confused God's people with God, and so have run from Him. The purpose of this book is to help you get past your wounds...to move forward into the joy and fellowship of God's presence, claiming the fullness of the blessings He has for you. God loves the wounded. I know.' In her most personal book to date, much loved author Anne Graham Lotz looks at a deeply painful question: what to do when we suffer rejection and hardship at the hands of other believers. Drawing on the story of Hagar, Abraham's mistreated servant, Anne shares the good news of healing and hope, offered by a God who loves us all - especially those on the periphery. An inspiring blend of Old Testament narrative with the author's own experience, this is a book that will show you that, just like Hagar found, 'you can't outrun God'.
