Violent, gritty, gangland thriller set in the tough world of London's East End.

Two kids are murdered...

Their gangland family want revenge.

Ten-year-old twin sisters are murdered outside their school. But they aren't just anyone's kids, they're gangster Stanley Lewis' daughters. When a rival gangster is arrested Stanley vows to take revenge. But his dad, feared villain Kenny Lewis, thinks there's more going on. So he contacts the one group of people who he trusts to help him find the truth...

Jackie, Anna, Roxy and Ollie. Four women with shady pasts who take the cases people don't take to the cops. They enter a world of easy sex and even easier violence where everyone, including the Lewis family, are hiding secrets. Then Jackie's son, a friend of the dead girls, disappears.

Biographical Notes

Born and bred in the East End of London, Dreda Say Mitchell has seen it all from the inside. After a string of jobs as a waitress, chambermaid and catering assistant she realised her dream of becoming a teacher. During this time she saw a new generation of East Enders grappling with the same problems she had but in an even more violent and unforgiving world. Dreda's books are inspired by the gritty, tough and criminal world she grew up in. She still lives in London's East End. In 2016, she became a Reading Ambassador for the Reading Agency to promote literacy and libraries.

The novel's complex plot shoots along at a terrific rate, gathering momentum. But what puts flesh on the bones and raises Mitchell's writing above the run of gangland thrillers is its psychological level . . . The end result is that the reader can enjoy colourful characterisation, along with the plot. — Independent

Teach Yourself Cycling

Reg Shaw
Authors:

'At one end of the scale, cycling is a real he-man's sport; at the other it is the ideal recreation for the elderly philosopher who loves to potter around the country lanes.'First published in 1953, Teach Yourself Cycling is a beautiful, lovingly reproduced window into a distant age, where understanding the good manners of the road and enjoying the innocence of the family picnic dominated life on two wheels.Yet few vehicles have changed as little as the bicycle in the 65 years since this book first published. For all that they have become immeasurably lighter and better adapted to a range of terrains, the basic mechanics remain the same - and a deeply recognisable spirit of joy runs through this book, even though the author, Reginald Shaw, feels he needs to reassure his readers that cycling can be "a pleasurable activity as well as a mode of transport".This book is perfect for fans of cycling interested in how the art and practice of riding a bike has changed. From a stout defence of 'the good manners of the road' to a surge of enthusiasm when mapping out the itinerary of a good cycling holiday, this book is warm, interesting and enlightening.Since 1938, millions of people have learned to do the things they love with Teach Yourself. Welcome to the how-to guides that changed the modern world.

Teach Yourself to Live

"Seek experiences of all kinds. Go everywhere and see everything. Talk with everyone. Be curious and satisfy your curiosities."'Charming, even moving. The earnestness, the desire to be seen doing things the right way, was utterly genuine', THE DAILY MAIL.'A place of stability and solid ground amid the rushing omnibuses', OLIVER BURKEMAN.Teach Yourself To Live is a self-help classic from a very distant age. Then, as now, the self-help world was dominated by energetic Americans preaching the secrets of limitless achievement. But from the off this delightfully dry, wise and pragmatic book offers something quite different - a sober, somewhat stern, but ultimately generous guide to living in a world blighted by modernity and taxes.Nostalgic, funny and charming, this book somewhat bad-temperedly insists the reader not get ideas above his or her station - yet it ends up delivering a bracing, empowering guide to knowing yourself and living well (despite it all). Full of fascinating and unexpected revelations, Teach Yourself To Live flips self-help on its head and provides a marvellous insight into the way we used to feel about life and how to live it."Never stand when there is an opportunity to sit down, and never sit down when you can lie down."Since 1938, millions of people have learned to do the things they love with Teach Yourself. Welcome to the how-to guides that changed the modern world.

Iain Maitland
Authors:

'wonderful, moving, humorous ... extremely poignant' Charlie Mortimer, Dear Lupin'...by turns acidly funny, exasperating and poignant, painting a moving portrait both of mental illness and of a father in denial. But paternal love... shines through.' Caroline Sanderson, Sunday ExpressLetters, Laughter and all the things we leave unsaid...Dear Michael,Moving your whatnots et al into the flat has put paid to any improvements in my back. Still, at least it's done now.Your mother is already worrying how you'll cope and is at work on reams of notes on all sorts of matters from how to tell if meat has gone off to washing whites. Smell it and wear black is my advice. Please do try to master the can opener and other basics before calling. You know how she worries. When Iain Maitland's eldest son left home for university he wrote regularly to him; funny, curmudgeonly letters chronicling their family life and giving Michael unsolicited and hopeless advice on everything from DIY to women. He never expected a reply - they were simply his way of continuing their relationship. What Iain didn't realise was that away from home his beloved boy was suffering from depression and anorexia. Only much later did it become apparent to Iain and his wife just how oblivious they had been, and for how very long.Told through Iain's letters and the unfolding reality of Michael's situation, Dear Michael, Love Dad forces us to question how well we can ever truly know our loved ones, but most of all expresses the unbreakable bond between a father and son.
